Substance Addiction

What is Substance Addiction Treatment?

Substance addiction can be defined as a physical dependence on a chemical substance. It affects a person’s brain and behaviour and in most cases leads to an inability to control the use of legal or illegal substances.
Alcohol, cannabis, heroin and prescription drugs are substances which often lead to dependence and it is very difficult to stop using particularly when a host of unpleasant symptoms start to manifest, such as irritability, aggressiveness, body aches, diarrhea and vomiting.
It is commonly known that substance addiction usually starts with the experimental use of a particular drug in a social situation and for most people, the drug usage becomes more and more frequent. Over time, larger doses of a particular substance are needed to experience the same euphoria as the user did in the beginning and this is called ‘Tolerance’. Attempts to reduce the consumption of a substance often creates a series of intense cravings at which point the user develops withdrawal symptoms

Our professional team will them customize a program for your specific condition and needs. The next steps involve treating the patient with non-addictive medication to assist the rebalance of the brain’s chemistry so talk therapies and holistic approaches can be initiated. It has been observed that patients become very responsive to this inpatient rehab treatment after the first 10 days working through these steps.
